After multiple failed ceasefires, the tide began to turn in late 2025. President Trump, in his second term, unveiled a 20-point peace plan that included:
• Immediate ceasefire and Israeli troop withdrawal to pre-agreed lines
• Release of all living Israeli hostages (20 individuals) in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners
• Return of deceased hostages’ remains (only 4 of 28 have been recovered so far)
• Humanitarian aid surge into Gaza, including restoration of power, water, and hospitals
Trump credited the U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites earlier in the year as a turning point, saying, “You couldn’t make this deal with someone sitting over there with a nuclear weapon over your head.”
The deal was signed in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, with world leaders from over a dozen nations in attendance. A temporary Palestinian governing council will oversee Gaza under international supervision, with Hamas permitted to serve as a provisional police force for a limited time.
1 Thessalonians 5:3 warns: “For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them…” The language of this deal - “the greatest deal of them all,” “a new dawn,” “lasting harmony” - echoes the very sentiment Paul warned about.
Furthermore, the idea of a temporary governing council in Gaza and the international oversight of Jerusalem’s neighbors could foreshadow the kind of global governance structure prophesied in Daniel 9:27, where a “covenant with many” is confirmed for seven years.
While this deal is not that covenant, it may be a precursor - a stepping stone toward the eventual rise of a charismatic global leader who will broker a broader peace involving Israel, possibly even allowing for the rebuilding of the Third Temple.
President Trump’s deal may be historic, but it is not eternal. The Middle East remains a powder keg, and the spiritual battle for Jerusalem is far from over.
Let us pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6), but let us also watch, discern, and prepare - for the hour is later than we think.
